It seems highly likely that a new generation of "vandal proof" Speed Cameras are heading to the U.K.
These Dutch cameras which are already operating in Holland, have strengthened glass, smoke and vibration detectors, fire resistant bodies and a steel base that is driven direct into the ground. Should a sensor be triggered the nearest Police Station is automatically alerted and all the stored Data is sent to the base so no evidence or revenue is lost.
NAMED - IDEE (Innovative Digital Enforcement Environment).
Other improvements over the old cameras include - Fully insulated internals that can withstand tremendous heat etc. These four metre high cameras can utilise either Radar technology or operate via induction loops in the road, Oh and of course the four high resolution cameras can monitor four lanes of traffic simultaneously!!
There is no visible flash so anyone speeding will only know for sure when the fine is delivered through the letterbox by the Postie.
These new cameras are being put forward for Home Office Approval which can gained in under a year.
NOTE - Changes in legislation mean U.K. Speed Cameras do NOThave to be made highly visible with bright yellow paintwork, Local Authorities could should they wish paint them to blend in with the surrounding area.

Shell Oil will be opening a series of new old petrol stations. They are to be in the 1950s – 60s classic style and we can say goodbye to self service as they are also reviving the attendant service. The first site at Newport Pagnell, (near me) :o) also boasts a Classic Car Showroom, Automotive Retailers, MOT Station and Restaurant.
Shell will use the 14,000 Sq Ft Art Deco site for appropriate events, exhibitions, Rallies etc etc…
These sites are aimed at bringing back the Golden era of motoring and the Newport Pagnell, Bucks site (Completion due 12/08) is based on the Garage constructed for last years Goodwood revival meeting. [04/08]
