The Middlebridge Scimitar Manual GTE Prototype

The Middlebridge Scimitar Prototype was driven to the south of France and back at high speed .Top speed 140mph, for the publicity photographs on the only Middlebridge Scimitar brochure.

I originally planned to buy a production car and went to the factory at Bilston to inspect the cars. The build quality was high and the test run impressive but the taxable benefit of a production car was also high so when I was shown the new prototype for a lower price I jumped at the chance to buy it .

The car was collected from the factory and Kenilworth garage our local Scimitar Ford and Middlebridge Scimitar main dealer provided a 12 month new car Warranty .The total mileage driven to date includes 31,000 miles on the original engine.

It has never let us down over 36 years of ownership and has only once come close to doing so ! Coming home to near Leamington Spa late after a Management meeting at our Electricity industry research station at Capenhurst near Chester I noticed on the M6 that my clutch pedal had to be pressed down further than normal to change gear.

Suspecting that the clutch cable was stretching and that it might fail I kept in 5th gear for over 90 miles. By the time that I got to the top of our 300 metre lane the pedal was much further down and then suddenly the cable broke and my foot hit the floor. Luckily the lane slopes downhill and my wife had left the Middlebridge Prototypes garage door open so I managed to glide into the garage.

When I bought the car the factory included a box of useful spares including a clutch cable,an accelerator cable ,a set of water hoses.spare front brake discs and rear drum pads.It only took 30 minutes to replace the clutch cable.

Last month it had a new set of all season Continental tyres.

Bought new from the factory in June 1989 and it has only had one owner. In 35 years of ownership it has never once let us down.

Exhibited regularly at Curborough, Sywell ( the first Middlebridge to be exhibited at Sywell before the Mess got involved ) , Silverstone classics and at the 25th anniversary at Gatcombe

Concours level body and paintwork. Maintained with a full service every year including all fluids changed regardless of mileage.

Always Garaged in an insulated dry double garage.
